5 Pirate Anime to Watch if You Love One Piece

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.

One Piece has done a lot to make pirates trendy and interesting. This series is considered one of the iconic ones for a reason. But it’s not the only anime about pirates, there are others. And we’ve collected a small list of them for you.

  1. Black Lagoon

Lagoon Company is a group of ruthless pirate mercenaries. The main character, Rokuro Okajima, gets kidnapped by the pirates, but instead of escaping them he decides to join the crew.

Now he’s part of the band that takes on various criminal jobs such as smuggling and even assassination. Struggling with his new life situation, Rokuro must adjust and face morally challenging dilemmas.

  1. Fena: Pirate Princess (Kaizoku Oujo)

A pirate princess? This is the moment when we say “hell, yeah” and don’t even need anything else to start watching. But if that’s not enough for you, here’s a quick synopsis.

A young orphan girl, Fena Houtman, is raised on a dark island where there is no hope for her. However, she manages to escape her captors and land upon Goblin Island, a mysterious place where Fena meets a clan of fierce warriors. This is also where she learns some things about her deceased father and decides to find the place he was looking for.

  1. Magi: Adventure of Sinbad (Magi: Sinbad no Bouken)

Sinbad is born into a world of poverty and oppression. Despite all that, he manages to lead a cheerful life. But one day his peace is ruined: a mysterious stranger arrives and tragedy awaits our main protagonist.

But he’s destined to change the world, and his endless determination might just be the right thing to achieve that.

  1. Space Pirate Captain Harlock

If you’re into both space and pirates, this is the show for you. It has a super old anime adaptation and a feature-length movie. Although it doesn’t look like a typical anime and uses 3D graphics, the movie is still a great watch.

Years after conquering the galaxy, mankind begins to return to Earth. Captain Harlock was tasked with defending the planet, but when others are allowed to immigrate there, he is outraged and unleashes dark matter on the planet to make it uninhabitable.

  1. Vinland Saga

Although this series is technically about vikings, fans say that vikings are basically just another name for pirates. They have ships, they sail, rob and kill. If that’s not pirates, we don’t know what is.

After Thorfinn’s father gets murdered by a group of mercenaries, the boy is heartbroken and furious. He is eager to get his revenge on the man that killed his father, but is too young and weak to do so. Thorfinn joins the mercenaries with the hope of getting stronger and avenging his dad.
