Attack on Titan spoilers ahead (obviously)!
Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) was always great at surprising its viewers. And not only because of its admirable direction, incredible action and mysterious story. There were many plot twists, but some of them just stand out a little bit more, and we’d like to talk about them.
Eren is a Titan Shifter
By the time it was officially revealed, everybody had already guessed that a mysterious titan had something to do with Eren. But the idea of him turning into a titan all of a sudden was still highly unexpected.
Let’s be honest, the series managed to make you doubt you’d ever see Eren again with how hard it was trying to prove to you that Mikasa would take the role of the main protagonist instead of him.
Reiner and Bertolt reveal
We already knew that the Armored and Colossus Titans were humans, too, and some of you might have even guessed their true identities before the big reveal, but the entire scene of them approaching Eren and casually telling him the truth was so shocking that we didn’t even understand what was happening at first.
Zeke is Eren’s brother
The Beast Titan had been a frightening and mysterious figure since the first time we saw him in the series. Everyone wanted to know who that man really was, and while a lot of theories suggested he was actually Eren’s father due to their resemblance, few thought that it was Zeke, Eren’s half brother.
Basement reveal
This reveal brings a lot of new information into the series. First of all, there were other people outside of the walls. Then, Grisha used to live in Marley and have a wife. Marleyans were creating titans, and one of the titans was the aforementioned wife.
On top of that, she was the one who killed Eren’s mother. The following episodes were just one big “wow” with how much new data was revealed.
Eren is the hobo man
While this one is the least surprising on our list, it still managed to fool some of the fans. It’s mostly true for manga readers, though, because they couldn’t recognize Eren by his voice, like anime-onlys could. But still, Hobo Eren managed to trick even those watching the series.
Eren manipulated his father
This one is definitely a biggie. We hardly doubt that anyone saw that coming. But it came, and it blew our minds. We had been thinking that Grisha was the villain of the story since he killed the royal family, when in reality it was Eren who manipulated him and forced him to do that. Such a beautiful moment!
