Are Fans Getting Tired of the Current Black Butler Manga Arc?

Yes, but they’re ready to wait.

Summary:

  • Black Butler has been going on for more than 17 years.
  • Fans are not enjoying the current arc and think that it’s being dragged on.
  • They are ready to give Yana Toboso more time, though.

The Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji) manga has been going on for so long that no one really remembers when and how it started already. Okay, we do remember how, that’s a lie, but let this hyperbole slide for a second.

Black Butler has been taking its time

Black Butler started back in 2006 and it’s close to its 20th anniversary, and still, there are no signs of it approaching its end. And manga readers just can’t help but feel frustrated by that. They can’t drop the series, either, because when you’ve devoted such a big part of your life to something, it’s difficult to just let it go. No matter what the current events in the manga are, we are all curious to see how the story ends.

When a manga continues for this amount of time, it’s meant to have its boring and unsatisfying moments. And fans think that the current arc is one of these moments. They feel like the plot has completely diverged from where it was going and dragged on for no particular reason. The absence of various characters is also frustrating (where’s Lizzie after all?), and the storytelling decisions become more questionable with each chapter.

Although readers understand that the backstories of servants are important, as there’s a high chance these characters will be with the main protagonists during the finale, they can’t help but want Ciel and Sebastian back. Not back to where it all started, of course, because every series has to evolve and develop, but Ciel and Sebastian’s relationship has always been the core of the series for some, and they just want to see their adventures and interactions. It’s some sort of nostalgia for earlier events in the series, when everything just was simpler.

Fans are ready to give it a chance

Still, no matter how frustrated they are, a couple of fans think that we shouldn’t rush Yana Toboso and let her do the job at her own pace. If she feels like some things need to be said, let her do that. Everyone would love the finale of Black Butler to be incredible, and if it means that they have to wait for some time and be bored for a number of chapters, they’re ready for that.

Manga takes a lot of time and effort, after all, so rushing it would only lead to a decrease in quality, and no one wants that. They want Black Butler to have a satisfying conclusion, and if time is what it takes, then let it be.
