- Fans think that it might have a special meaning.
Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) Final Chapters released its digital copies in Japan on March 20, 2024. The rest of the world is still waiting for their chance to get their hands on it, but Japanese fans are very quick with the news as they’ve noticed a tiny new Mikasa scene in the Blu-ray version.
New scene
The Final Chapters Part 2 had several credit scenes showing the future of Paradis and some moments with characters visiting Eren’s grave. And there’s a new scene that was added to the digital copies.
It portrays Mikasa next to Eren’s grave. Unlike the scenes that were originally shown in the finale, Mikasa is alone here, no one accompanies her. It’s late fall or early winter, as it’s snowing, but we can still see some green scenery. Mikasa is just standing there with her back to the viewer, holding an umbrella.
Is that a reference?
Fans found it weird to add such a small and seemingly unimportant scene to the Blu-ray version of the series, so they naturally started looking for a deeper meaning to it. It’s obvious that Mikasa went to see Eren’s grave, so why do we need another scene of it?
One of the ideas is that the scene is a reference to 13 no Fuyu (Thirteen Winters) by Yui Ishikawa, the voice actress of Mikasa, which is a song about Mikasa’s feelings for Eren and his 13-year lifespan.
It starts with “The ground painted crimson with blood… Was covered with white snow…” hence the snow in the scene. Could it mean that these are the thoughts running through Mikasa’s mind when she visits Eren’s grave?
Other theories
Although the resolution of the leaked scene leaves much to be desired, some fans noticed something peculiar about Mikasa’s appearance. They feel that the girl looks pregnant in the frame, which could mean that all the theories about her getting a husband and having children are true.
However, other fans were quick to disprove this theory, saying that she’s just wearing several layers of clothing. It’s snowing after all, so it’s natural for her to look bigger with all those clothes.
Shippers are very happy about the added scene, since it once again proves that Mikasa has been visiting Eren’s grave all these years, even if there was no one else with her and even if the weather wasn’t nice. It’s just another proof of how much Eren really meant to her and how deep her feelings were.
