Some sequels arrive quietly. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 hired a basketball arena.
On the evening of 3 July 2026, Studio Trigger and CD Projekt Red world-premiered the first episode of Edgerunners 2 at Crypto.com Arena — home of the LA Lakers — in front of roughly 6,000 Anime Expo attendees, months ahead of the show's Netflix debut this autumn.
The premiere nobody spoiled
The screening wasn't recorded or streamed anywhere, and here's the genuinely remarkable part: days later, not one frame had leaked online. CD Projekt Red's global PR director, Radek Grabowski, publicly thanked the crowd for keeping it that way. Six thousand people with phones. Zero spoilers. In 2026, that's practically a miracle.
The panel that followed featured showrunner Bartosz Sztybor, executive producer Saya Elder, and director Kai Ikarashi, hosted by content creator Danny Motta.
A brand-new crew — no David Martinez
This is a standalone story, not a continuation. The 10-episode season introduces four new leads:
- Weak Kingsley — voiced in the English dub by Clancy Brown.
- D — a revenge-driven netrunner, voiced by Nazeeh Tarsha.
- Roman Carax — an aspiring journalist, voiced by Valeria Rodriguez.
- Talia Yang — a bloodthirsty corpo rounding out the quartet.
Early reactions describe a more grounded, grittier Night City than season 1's neon fireworks — and every bit as brutal. Sztybor set expectations himself at the premiere, as reported by Beneath the Tangles in July 2026:
"Don't get attached to anyone."
Given what season 1 did to viewers, that warning lands.
The Cyberpunk effect, again
The first season, released in September 2022, won Anime of the Year at the 2023 Crunchyroll Anime Awards and famously rescued the Cyberpunk 2077 game, which went on to pass 20 million copies sold. History is already repeating: after the season 2 trailer dropped, the game hit a peak of 87,129 concurrent Steam players — its highest figure since October 2024.
No exact premiere date yet — just "autumn 2026" on Netflix, with a full trailer and date expected later this summer.
