Don’t worry, it’s not what you think.
Summary:
- Delicious in Dungeon began with the characters’ quest to save Falin.
- They found her bones in the dragon’s stomach in Episode 11.
- Resurrection exists in Delicious in Dungeon, and Falin can still be saved.
Falin’s fate has been the big question of Delicious in Dungeon (Dungeon Meshi) from the very beginning. The entire story started because of her. A frightening dragon ate the girl, and our party began their journey to save her.
It took Laios and the others 11 episodes to finally defeat the dragon and find Falin. Or, well, find what’s left of her. In this case, we’re talking about a couple of bones and her magic staff.
It took the fandom by surprise because of course! They’ve been giving us hope that Falin can still be saved for 10 episodes, and all those endearing flashbacks of the girl made us fall for her, and now we just see her bones and have to deal with the pain on the faces of our favorite characters.
Why did they take so long?
A number of fans got so upset by this development that they started blaming Laios and the others for taking so long to get to Falin. She was inside the dragon, while the party was cooking monsters and eating well. But this is not how things work in Delicious in Dungeon.
It was stated right from the beginning that all members of the party need to be well-fed to fight. They lost Falin because they weren’t strong enough due to their hunger in the first place. To avoid this mistake in the future, they had to find food and restore their strength.
Is it too late to save Falin?
In Delicious in Dungeon, death doesn’t work the way it does in so many series, it’s not definitive. All members of the party have died in the past, but have been brought back from the dead.
Resurrection is a thing in this universe, and death can be undone. That’s why this is not the end for Falin, she can still be saved. Her case is a bit unusual, though.
Characters were surprised
Finding Falin in this state was very surprising to the party members, but not because they were hoping to find her alive. They knew she was eaten by the dragon and was most likely dead. But they still expected to find her in one piece.
Dragons consume their victims whole, and then they usually spend most of their time hibernating. That’s why it’s supposed to take them a long time to digest the prey. However, this dragon woke up for reasons yet to be revealed, so it digested Falin faster.
