Gintama: Yoshiwara in Flames is heading to Netflix globally soon, with the epic cinematic remake poised to land on the streamer for viewers everywhere.
Built from the ground up as a feature, Gintama: Yoshiwara in Flames re-animates the fan-favorite arc from the 2006 anime’s episodes 139–146 with crisp new visuals. The film is directed by Naoya Ando at BN Pictures, with a screenplay by Taku Kishimoto, and first hit Japanese theaters on February 13, 2026.

Inside Yoshiwara
The story throws Gintoki and the Odd Jobs trio into the underground pleasure district of Yoshiwara, a city sealed off from the surface and ruled by the iron-fisted Housen of the Yato Tribe. After Gintoki crosses paths with a young pickpocket named Seita, who believes the district’s revered courtesan Hinowa is his missing mother, the crew stages a high-risk rescue that pits them against Housen’s forces and the moral compromises of a city built in darkness.
Expect the franchise’s usual whiplash between dead-serious swordplay and ridiculous humor, plus a bigger spotlight on fan favorites like Tsukuyo and the Yato heavy hitters looming at the edges of the fight.
The movie also features the theme song “Sanzen” by Japanese rock band SUPER BEAVER.

Created by Hideaki Sorachi, the Gintama manga ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2003 to 2019, closing out at 77 collected volumes and more than 58 million copies in circulation worldwide. The Yoshiwara arc is one of its defining runs, mixing the series’ absurdist comedy with some of its most emotional and brutal battles.
Netflix’s global launch is set for August 27, 2026; the title page is already live so viewers can add it to their list ahead of the premiere.
