If you thought that Haikyuu!!’s ending felt rushed, you’re not the only one.
Haikyuu!! To the Top Part 2 is the 4th and last season of the popular sports shonen saga. However, the ending doesn’t really give our beloved characters a proper send-off, instead leaving viewers wondering whether Hinata and his Karasuno High teammates will ever achieve their dream of winning the nationals. So, is this really the end?
The short answer is: yes and no.
Yes, because this is indeed the final season of the animated TV series in the Haikyuu!! franchise.
No, because Production I.G, the studio behind the anime adaptation, has two more movies planned to wrap the story up.

Originally scheduled for August, the first movie in the duology has been pushed to a September release. The official Twitter account of the anime franchise has recently revealed its name: Gekijōban Haikyuu!! Gomi Suteba no Kessen (Haikyuu!! the Movie: Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump). The plot of the first movie starts off right where we left Hinata and his teammates: preparing for their upcoming “fated” match against their historic rival, Nekoma.
Of course, those eager to learn how the story ends don’t have to wait for the movie sequels to come out, as the source material is right there. Head to your nearest manga store and pick up volume 33 of the Haikyuu!! manga. Chapter 292 is where the anime series abruptly ends, and the manga continues.
There’s another good reason to read the manga. Fans speculate that a two-part movie will simply not be enough to cover the rest of the chapters left in Haikyuu!!. Over the course of its run, the show introduced us to many charismatic characters whose stories deserve their own ending. We’re not going to spoil everything, but there’s a timeskip in the manga that does a wonderful job of tying up all the loose ends and giving us a glimpse of the characters’ future.
In the meantime, you have two options: either wait for the arrival of the movies or satisfy your curiosity by reading the manga. Of course, there might be a surprise underway. Who knows, perhaps one day the studio will decide to treat us to a new, fifth season of the anime. For now, all we can do is wait patiently for that announcement.
