Appearances can be very deceiving.
Hantengu is a member of the Twelve Kizuki, the most powerful demons in Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba). Despite looking quite frail and having a thin body, he holds the position of an Upper Rank demon, which hints at the fact that there’s much more to him than his looks.
The first look at Hantengu doesn’t kindle any horror: the demon seems to be the epitome of cowardice and anxiety. Everything scares him, fear permeates the air around him. The demon was also shown crying out of panic more than once. Doesn’t sound like a worthy opponent, does it?
Despite all of that, it’s not a mistake that Hantengu is a member of the Twelve Kizuki. He is an extremely powerful demon, and fighting him will force any demon slayer to be creative since everything they’ve been taught becomes irrelevant when it comes to a battle with Hantengu. His Blood Demon Art allows him to create clones, each of them possessing the strength of an Upper Moon Rank. Common methods cannot be applied in this confrontation, as they may result in the demon unleashing his clones and becoming only stronger and more dangerous. You can’t decapitate him or cut him into pieces as it will only trigger his Blood Demon Art; demon slayers’ swords were easily broken when coming into contact with the demon.
Each of Hantengu’s clones has their own powers and abilities, which only increases the level of skills and competence needed to fight the demon. Their weapons also vary, making it more difficult for a demon slayer to adjust and adhere to a singular fighting style. Unlike their creator, the clones don’t show signs of fear and dread, they’re ready to fight and kill, their attacks are fierceful and can puzzle even the most skilled warriors.
Hantengu himself possesses immense speed and reflexes, it’s not so easy to keep up with him. Moreover, his ability to change his body size makes him even more difficult to catch and only adds to his stealth skills.
Some fans are sure that Hantengu is impossible to beat in a one-on-one battle; they’re confident that even the most skilled Hashira won’t come out as a victor after such a fight. Besides, they add that if not for Hantengu’s choices and behavior, he could possibly be the Upper Rank One demon, and no force in the world could beat him then.
