Should Angel be doing a bit more?
Summary:
- Angel uses Hana’s body as a vessel, just like Sukuna uses Yuji’s.
- Giving up control over the body is a tricky thing in the series.
- Angel is afraid to suppress Hana and take full control of the body.
As we know from the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, Yuji is not the only vessel in the series. And no, we’re not talking about Megumi again, this time Hana is on the menu.
Who are Hana and Angel?
Hana is a sorcerer who shares her body with the Angel, an incarnated sorcerer from the Heian Era. She first appeared in Chapter 145, which means that we’ll see her pretty soon in the anime, too, since it’s just about 10 chapters ahead of the Shibuya Incident Arc that was adapted in Season 2.
So Hana is like Yuji in many ways: she's a human who has an ancient entity living in her body. However, Angel doesn’t behave like Sukuna, and fans are curious to know why.
It’s still unclear how Angel ended up in Hana’s body but fans suggest that it has something to do with Kenjaku’s plan. The idea is that he might have put a seal on Hana and forced her to eat a cursed object, which resulted in Hana and Angel’s coexistence. Just like Yuji, who ate Sukuna’s finger.
Why wouldn’t Angel help more?
If both Sukuna and Angel are powerful beings, then why doesn’t Angel take control of Hana’s body to join the fight and help beat Sukuna? She aims to wipe him out anyway. But the thing is that it doesn’t work this easily.
When Sukuna came into control over Yuji’s body back in Season 1, he realized a very peculiar thing: Yuji cannot come back at his own will. This made it clear that giving up control is not an easy thing to do, which can mean that Angel is just afraid that she wouldn’t be able to bring Hana back, was she to become in control of the body.
And Angel doesn’t want that. Unlike Sukuna, her goal is not to possess the body entirely, she wants to share her body symbiotically with Hana.
On top of that, fans think that Hana is not as powerful as Yuji, because he’s the special one. We see how bad Megumi is doing now (if he’s even alive), which is a thing that never happened to Yuji.
What if Hana is never capable of coming back when Angel takes full control of the body? This goes against Angel’s ideals. She doesn’t want to intervene a lot and suppress the vessel’s original owner, meaning Hana. It’s against God’s laws, and that’s why Angel thinks it’s wrong.
