Taro Sakamoto — legendary assassin turned overweight corner-shop owner — has been grinding through a "final battle" for almost a year. This week, Weekly Shonen Jump finally said the quiet part out loud.
The short answer
Yes — the end is close. Weekly Shonen Jump's 34th issue of 2026 confirmed on 20 July that Yuuto Suzuki's Sakamoto Days is heading into its climax, with the climax arc beginning in issue 35, on sale 26 July 2026. The series currently stands at 267 chapters, and no official final chapter date has been announced yet.
How we got here
- December 2019 — Suzuki publishes the one-shot "Sakamoto" in Shueisha's Jump Giga.
- November 2020 — the full series launches in Weekly Shonen Jump.
- August 2025 — the "final battle" officially begins in the magazine's combined issue 36/37.
- 20 July 2026 — Jump confirms the story is entering its climax.
Nearly six years, start to finish. That's a healthy run by modern Jump standards — and crucially, Suzuki gets to end the story on his own terms rather than being cut for low popularity.
Where the final battle stands
Sakamoto is at last facing Slur — real name Uzuki — in the confrontation the whole series has been building towards. The most recent chapters left Sakamoto gravely injured, with fellow assassin Nagumo stepping in against Gaku and Uzuki. Jump's own chapter preview isn't being subtle about where this is going:

As for the actual final chapter, ComicBook.com has floated a tidy landing at chapter 270 on 2 August 2026. Pure speculation — but manga do love a round number.
What about the anime?
Completely unaffected, and there's plenty left to adapt. The TMS Entertainment series premiered on Netflix on 11 January 2025, and season 2 arrives in January 2027, with Daisuke Nakajima taking over as director, Masaki Watanabe supervising, and Yūki Hayashi returning on music. The spin-off manga Sakamoto Holidays — drawn by Suzuki's assistant Tetsu Okawa — also carries on in Saikyō Jump, so the shop isn't shutting entirely.
For the record: Sakamoto Days will be the fifth major Weekly Shonen Jump series to finish in 2026 — Blue Box only wrapped on 12 July. Jump's line-up is about to look very different.
