It Used to Be More Popular, But It’s Not an Issue

It became too successful too quickly, but there weren’t enough manga chapters to keep the show going, so the animation studio had to improvise. The result is controversial: half of Season 1 and entire Season 2 are non-canon.
A Lot of Issues Are Left in the Past
There isn’t such an issue now, since the manga went far beyond the current anime events. There are four more arcs that came out after the Public School one, so if CloverWorks decides to keep Black Butler going, the anime might stay with us for years. And it’ll finally be fully canon.
Since a lot of eyes were on Black Butler, there were also quite a few controversies. And most of them had a connection to the ship between Sebastian and Ciel.
But right now the fandom is much more chill. Of course, there are still hundreds of Sebacial shippers and hundreds of those who detest this couple full-heartedly. However, Black Butler doesn’t attract that much attention anymore, so the fandom experience has become much more peaceful.
For all these reasons, now is the perfect time to start watching Black Butler. It’s finally canon, there aren’t so many fights in the fandom, the quality of the adaptation is getting better, and the series might have an eventful future.
