Jujutsu Kaisen’s Sukuna is Not Frightening Anymore, and Here’s Why

Jujutsu Kaisen’s Sukuna is Not Frightening Anymore, and Here’s Why

What changed, though?

Jujutsu Kaisen manga spoilers ahead!

Summary:

  • Sukuna used to be much scarier.
  • The Shibuya Incident Arc was his time to shine as a villain.
  • Sukuna became less frightening after he had taken over Megumi’s body.

Once upon a time, there was a powerful King of Curses, who everyone was terrified of. But not anymore.

Remember the first season of Jujutsu Kaisen when you didn’t really know much about Sukuna and his powers, but everyone was saying how incredibly strong he was and how he should be feared? To be honest, he didn’t really feel dangerous at first, but a couple of further episodes showed that he had the potential to become an incredible villain.

Sukuna’s powers are astonishing

When Yuji, Megumi and Nobara encountered a special grade curse that almost killed them, it felt like there was no way out. Until Sukuna appeared and dealt with the curse in mere seconds. He then proceeded to toy with Megumi and almost killed Yuji. All of that showed Sukuna’s true potential. And it wasn’t even his full power!

Nevertheless, fans agree that Sukuna showed his true greatness during the Shibuya Incident Arc. He managed to wreak complete havoc in about 10 chapters. They call his domain expansion in this arc the epitome of him being a marvelous villain. And, unfortunately, the last time he was this frightening.

Sukuna was an extremely intimidating entity, and the promise of even more power followed him with every consumed finger. But why has it changed?

Taking over Megumi’s body made Sukuna less interesting

Fans say that Sukuna’s vibe started to change after he had taken control of Megumi’s body. It’s like he stopped relying on his own strength and started absorbing other sorcerer’s abilities.

While him using Megumi’s shadows and showing the full potential of the sorcerer's cursed technique was quite interesting, it was still not Sukuna’s powers. It was curious to learn how he would use the newly acquired abilities along with his own, but fans were waiting and waiting, and the moment never came.

Sukuna’s fight with Gojo was one of the greatest in the series, that’s hard to deny. And still, he had to be saved and had to transfer the damage to Megumi’s brain instead of his own.

All of that makes the fans wonder if he is really THAT strong, or if he’s just good at manipulating other people’s abilities and using them as his own shield. He’s the King of Curses, after all! Where is his endless power?

That’s why fans preferred him much more when he was in Yuji’s body. He was more frightening, more entertaining. They say he lost his aura after that moment and was never as scary as before. And this is just upsetting.

Which Sukuna do you prefer?
