Love is in the air!
Since Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) doesn’t really have a lot of romance, fans have decided to make it their responsibility. The series originated dozens of various ships, and it’s impossible to mention all of them in one article without it being the size of Wall Maria. But we’ve tried to collect some of them that are very dear to Attack on Titan shippers.
10. Jean & Marco
Although this couple didn’t have a happy ending and their interactions were destroyed by Marco’s death, the little screen time that they had together was enough (you probably know by now that characters interacting is not a must for shipping them, though). Even now you can find a couple of wholesome or heartbreaking fanarts of these two.
9. Reiner & Bertolt
With the amount of time Reiner and Bertolt spent together, it was obvious that they would be shipped. These Warriors were forced to work together, but it doesn’t mean that they didn’t care about each other. Especially after Annie was captured and left their trio, they were by themselves. And who knows what they were doing.
8. Levi & Hange
Although a big part of the fandom prefers seeing them as best friends, no one can deny the chemistry. Calm and resolved Levi and eccentric and uncontrollable Hange would make a peculiar couple. The care they have for each other is incredible, and their interactions are one of the most hilarious things in the Attack on Titan series.
7. Eren & Armin
Just like Levi and Hange, these two are best friends in canon. Which only makes some people ship them more. The trust and love Eren and Armin have is astonishing. We will never forget Eren’s reaction to Armin dying. He was ready for anything to save his friend’s life, even going against his commanding officers.
6. Historia & Ymir
These two were very close to becoming canon, and some fans are absolutely confident that there was definitely something romantic going on between these two, but unfortunately Ymir didn’t live long enough for this storyline to get developed. Ymir’s desire to protect Historia was immense, and it’s obvious that Historia reciprocated the feeling.
5. Armin & Annie
This relationship development might be called rather sudden, but it wasn’t baseless. Armin and Annie didn’t have many interactions, but the final episodes were a dream come true for the shippers. It was heavily implied that they have feelings for each other, and we cannot forget how eager Annie was to save Armin during the final battle. And can we please talk about Armin visiting Annie every day while she was captured?
4. Levi & Erwin
If you haven’t seen A Choice with No Regrets OVAs, it’s your sign to do so. Levi and Erwin are incredibly close in the original series, but the OVAs give us much more perspective on their relationship. Despite not having a warm relationship at first, these two managed to earn each other’s respect, and Levi willingly chose to follow Erwin. There’s no doubt that Erwin was canonically very dear to Levi, and seeing him die broke his heart. Levi promised to kill the Beast Titan for Erwin, and even after the commander’s death this promise was one of the most important things for him. The devotion is unreal!
3. Eren & Levi
This might be one of the most controversial ships in the entire Attack on Titan series, but it exists, and you just have to deal with it. If you go to AO3, which is one of the most famous fanfiction websites, and look for Attack on Titan fics, you might find yourself surprised by learning that Eren/Levi is the most popular couple there. Despite many people believing that this pairing is based on the mere fact that Eren and Levi just “look hot together”, it has nothing to do with reality. Eren and Levi have influenced each other a lot, and Levi’s task to control “the monster” turned into actual care for the boy and desire to protect him.
2. Eren & Historia
These two started becoming closer in Season 3, and since then they’ve had some great moments. There’s a weird sense of understanding and acceptance between Eren and Historia. They trust each other with their secrets and their worries. They respect each other’s opinions, and Historia appreciated Eren’s advice. Moreover, Historia was the only one who knew about Eren’s plan. She was aware of the horrors he was about to inflict on people and saw the monster he was becoming, but she accepted and supported him no matter what. There was definitely chemistry between them, and some fans are still upset that it didn’t lead anywhere canonically.
1. Eren & Mikasa
Eremika being number one on our list would hardly surprise anyone. After all, the series itself proves that these two are more to each other than just friends. Eren is Mikasa’s entire world, and she’s always the first one to protect and save him. After the moment he saved her, their lives have been connected, and nothing was capable of breaking it. Even after Eren’s death, Mikasa remains loyal to him and wears the scarf he gave her until the very day she dies.
