Yes, we know her name is Catarina. But Catarina is Bakarina.
Summary:
Three teaser trailers for the upcoming Bakarina movie were released.
Bakarina is a human golden retriever reincarnated as a would-be-villainess.
She already cleared the original game’s Death Flags.
The movie introduces an extra Death Flag scenario.
The first screening and subsequent release of My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! (Otome Game no Hametsu Flag shika Nai Akuyaku Reijou ni Tensei shiteshimatta…) movie is just around the corner — so of course, we’ve received the last bunch of teaser trailers. Yes, plural this time around — three, to be exact, for the movie itself, Maria Campbell, and Nicol Ascart:
Catarina is Bakarina
Catarina Claes used to be a villainess from an otome game Fortune Lover. Except, a fan of the game reincarnated as Catarina, and sent the entire story off the rails by bumbling and fumbling her way through the game’s backstory, befriending all the characters who were supposed to become Catarina’s victims or enemies, and somehow managing to subvert villainess’ horrible fate despite her complete lack of awareness, smarts or tact.
Basically, the would-be-villainess’ personality was changed into that of a human golden retriever.
As a result, Catarina (lovingly dubbed “Bakarina” by fans) amassed a rather bisexual harem of handsome boys and pretty girls — up to and including the supposed main heroine of Fortune Lovers and original Catarina’s main victim — as they fawn over our clueless ex-villainess, feed her sweets, and get dragged along on her misadventures.
The Bakarina movie is almost here!
This story already had two fantastic seasons (with the first one finishing the story of the original game), specials, an OVA, and a voice drama — so of course, the next thing on the list is a movie that follows this series’ naming conventions — Otome Game no Hametsu Flag shika Nai Akuyaku Reijou ni Tensei shiteshimatta… Movie. Yes, they’ve really used the series’ ridiculously long full title, and just tacked “Movie” at the end (and yes, it’ll be a mouthful to say when ordering a ticket).
The movie (which fans believed to be Season 3) will introduce us to a previously skipped Death Flag scenario Catarina is familiar with, as well as a bunch of additional characters, presumably from another kingdom. It’s great to see that this additional cast has clear Middle Eastern inspirations, and hope these depictions won’t devolve into straight up stereotyping. After all, Bakarina deserves her adventures to be as happy and free of controversy as possible.
The long-titled Bakarina Movie will be first screened at Anime NYC 2023, on November 19th, with its worldwide premiere in movie theaters on December 8th, 2023.
