Okinawa de Suki ni Natta Ko ga Hougen Sugite Tsurasugiru is originally a manga series written and illustrated by Egumi Sora. The title can be literally translated as “The Dialect of the Girl I Fell in Love With in Okinawa is too Difficult to Deal With,” and it’s another one of these anime with a long and self-explanatory name that we’ve seen plenty of.
This romantic comedy follows Teruaki Nakamura, who moved from Tokyo to Okinawa. As you may guess from the series title, he meets a girl there, Hina, but the problem is that her dialect is not an easy thing to understand. However, the girl’s friend, Kana, is there to help Teruaki translate. But the interesting part begins when the said friend starts developing feelings for Teruaki.
What do we know about the adaptation?
An anime adaptation of the series was announced last year, in July 2023. Millepensee (Berserk) is working on the project, and it’s written and directed by Shingo Tanabe and Shin Itagaki.
Along with some members of the staff, several voice actors have been revealed, and they include Takeo Ootsuka (A Sign of Affection, Oshi no Ko) as Teruaki, Fairouz Ai (Mushoku Tensei, Chainsaw Man) as Kana and Akari Kitou (Demon Slayer, Chained Soldier) as Hina.

Fans don’t even want to speculate for now because Millepensee is notorious for having their productions crash mid-season, so they naturally hope that the studio has learned from their mistakes and will take their time with this new project.
But if it does see the light of day, it promises to be a great romantic comedy. However, fans say that the effect of not understanding the Okinawa dialect will be challenging to convey to those who don’t speak even a little bit of Japanese.
