It is still planned for 3 cours, but the second part is airing in July.
Summary:
- Despite previous announcements, Sengoku Youko will take a break.
- The anime returns in July, adapting the rest of the manga, with part 2 running for 2 consecutive cours.
- Fans are fine with this approach.
Despite the initial plans for three consecutive cours, it is going to take a break after the first cour. The first arc is over, so this is actually a good place to stop. Normally, fans wouldn’t be happy about a series taking a break, but in this case, they don’t care that much.
The Second Part Will Be 2 Cours, Airing in July
As a previous interview revealed, Sengoku Youko is fully adapting the manga — and only doing so because the staff likes the source material a lot. Instead of just adapting part 2 of the manga, White Fox is adapting the entire thing — and part 1 is over with the current arc.
The point where the anime stopped for now is pretty good for an arc ending, and the second part is supposedly even more hype — fans are looking forward to it.
Regardless of the break, we’re getting the entirety of the anime in 2024, as the sequel will air in July — and is currently scheduled for two consecutive cours (as part 2 covers the rest of the manga).
Fans Are Happy the Staff Will Get a Break
As we will get the whole story soon, fans aren’t necessarily unhappy about the studio taking a break before going into the second part. In fact, they are quite glad the staff is getting a break before animating an even better part of the manga.
One concern fans have about the anime right now, though, is that the second cour of part 2 will air alongside Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- (Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu) — potentially impacting the production for both series.
That said, from what we’ve seen from the trailer of Re:Zero, that show looks very good, and it’s likely that big parts of it have already been animated — giving the staff more time to work on Sengoku Youko.
Manga Fans Are Happy the Adaptation is Actually Good
While it’s still somewhat disappointing we didn’t get an anime running for three consecutive cours in 2024, it’s still fine. Sengoku Youko has the classic 00s shounen vibe, and it’s one of the most underrated anime of the Winter 2024 season.
The fans of the manga are just glad it’s getting fully adapted in the first place — and the adaptation is actually good.
Another manga by the same mangaka, Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer (Hoshi no Samidare), was made into anime a few years ago, and it is still considered one of the worst adaptations out there. At least Sengoku Youko anime is really good.
