Sung Jinwoo has run out of television to conquer. His next arise happens on the big screen.
At the Crunchyroll Showcase during Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles on 3 July, Aniplex and Crunchyroll announced Solo Leveling: Beyond the System — a theatrical anime film that picks up directly after the events of season 2. It was the loudest reveal of the convention's loudest weekend.
What was actually announced
The film is officially in production, confirmed on stage by Aleks Le — the English voice of Sung Jinwoo — alongside a new key visual and a teaser concept video. A-1 Pictures, the studio behind both seasons of the series, returns for the movie, with a production committee made up of Crunchyroll, Aniplex, Netmarble, D&C Media, and Kakao Piccoma.
No release date. No plot details. Just confirmation that the story continues, and that it continues in cinemas rather than on a weekly schedule.
How the franchise got here
Beyond the System caps a remarkably fast climb:
- The source — Chugong's South Korean web novel, set in a world where Hunters battle monsters spilling out of mysterious Gates.
- Season 1 — premiered in January 2024 and turned the story of Sung Jinwoo, humanity's weakest E-Rank Hunter, into a global phenomenon.
- Season 2 — arrived a year later, in January 2025, ending with Jinwoo a very long way from E-Rank.
- The film — a direct continuation of season 2, with the mysteries waiting beyond the System still unexplained.
What we don't know yet
The big three: when it releases, which part of the story it adapts, and whether it leads into a third season afterwards. Crunchyroll has said more information — schedules, trailers, and cast details — will come as production progresses, so expect the next proper update at a major event later this year.
The choice of a theatrical release is the real statement here. Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen have proven that event anime films can post enormous box office numbers, and Solo Leveling is one of the few modern franchises with the audience to join that club.
For the record: Solo Leveling took Anime of the Year at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards. The film has a reputation to keep — and a fandom that levels up alongside its hero.
