A November 2025 headline put the film in 2026. Crunchyroll's official reveal in July came with no date, and the film remains in production.

Eleven months ago, the Solo Leveling movie was "confirmed for 2026". With less than three months of 2026 left, it still has no release date, and the official announcement never promised one.

The 2026 date came from the internet, not from the studio. In November 2025, esports.gg ran the headline "Solo Leveling anime movie confirmed for 2026", citing a post from an anime news account. The body of the same article admitted there was no release date at all. Fans were simply expecting a mid-year release.

The film was officially unveiled eight months later, and it came without a year attached.

What Crunchyroll actually announced

At its Anime Expo 2026 showcase in July, Crunchyroll revealed Solo Leveling: Beyond the System, a sequel film that continues the story after season two. Aleks Le, the English voice of Sung Jinwoo, confirmed it on stage at the Peacock Theater. A teaser visual and a concept video were shown.

  • Status: in production.
  • Studio: A-1 Pictures, which made both TV seasons.
  • Director: Tao Tajima, per the film's entry on Wikipedia.
  • Producers: Crunchyroll, Aniplex, Netmarble, D&C Media and Kakao Piccoma.
  • Release date: none. Crunchyroll said more details would come later.

The esports.gg headline framed the film as Solo Leveling's answer to the box office runs of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle and Chainsaw Man. That comparison was the article's own. The official announcement made no such claim and set no such date.

Beyond the System won't be the first Solo Leveling film in cinemas

The franchise has already been on the big screen. Solo Leveling: ReAwakening, a compilation of the first season, was screened in Japanese cinemas from November 29 to December 12, 2024, together with the first two episodes of season two. Crunchyroll bought the North American and select international rights and put it in US and Canadian cinemas on December 6, 2024.

ReAwakening ran for two weeks in Japan, and reached North American cinemas one week after its Japanese debut.

Beyond the System is the first film with a new story. That is a different claim, and a more accurate one.

The same article got the anime's start date wrong too

The esports.gg piece says Solo Leveling "first premiered back in 2023". The TV anime was originally scheduled for 2023, but it was delayed. It aired from January 7 to March 31, 2024, on Tokyo MX and other networks. Season two, Arise from the Shadow, ran from January 5 to March 30, 2025.

So the headline that put the movie in 2026 sat on top of an article that put the series in the wrong year. Both mistakes were about dates.

Solo Leveling is busy everywhere except cinemas

  • Live action: in July 2025, Netflix was announced as the home of a live-action series, with Byeon Woo-seok as Sung Jin-woo and Han So-hee as Cha Hae-in. Kakao Entertainment and Sanai Pictures produce.
  • Games: Netmarble's action RPG Solo Leveling: Arise was released on May 8, 2024.
  • Spin-off: the webtoon Solo Leveling: Ragnarok premiered in July 2024.
  • Music: season two's opening, "Reawaker", was performed by LiSA featuring Felix of Stray Kids.

Where the film sits in Crunchyroll's slate

Beyond the System led Crunchyroll's July showcase, hosted by Tim Lyu and Lauren Moore. Almost everything else on that stage came with a date or at least a year attached:

  • The Vermilion Mask: October 2026.
  • Overgeared: later in 2026.
  • Magical Buffs: The Support Caster is Stronger Than He Realized!: January 2027.
  • The Rising of the Shield Hero season 5: 2027.
  • Dengeki Daisy: 2027.
  • Kagurabachi: next year on Crunchyroll.

The headliner was one of the few exceptions. Ghost of Tsushima: Legends also got no window at that showcase. Solo Leveling, the biggest name on the stage, got no year at all.

The franchise is not short of material. Chugong's story, published in Korea by D&C Media, has already produced a spin-off webtoon, Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, running since July 2024. What the film doesn't have yet is a slot on the calendar.

What is still unknown

  • When Beyond the System comes out. No date or year has been announced.
  • Whether a third TV season is planned. The film continues the story after season two. Nothing has been said about a season three.
  • How much of the story the film covers. Crunchyroll has only said it picks up after season two.

The movie was "confirmed for 2026" in November 2025. It was announced in July 2026 with no date. As of the last official update, it is still in production.
