When did these two start having feelings for each other?

You don’t have to be a Sherlock Holmes-level detective to understand that Spice and Wolf (Ookami to Koushinryou) is slowly building towards a romantic relationship between Lawrence and Holo. The first scene of the remake is a huge hint that these two are meant to start a family somewhere along the way.
However, knowing it and watching it unfold are two completely different things. The relationship between Holo and Lawrence is a slow burn, indeed, so you’ll have to wait a little longer for them to finally become a thing. And we can help you with the time frame a bit.
Love at First Sight?
The chemistry between Holo and Lawrence is so great that you might think it was love at first sight. But we have to disappoint you a little by saying that it wasn’t the case.
Lawrence is definitely interested in Holo, but he’s not the type of person who falls for a girl the moment he sees her. He was lonely and desperate, didn’t have many friends, and then he met a literal goddess who took interest in him.
Lawrence was completely fascinated by Holo, her power and her personality, and it felt natural since anyone would be at least a little bit smitten if they encountered a being like that. Still, his feelings needed more time to develop.
We can already see some hints of actual care between Holo and Lawrence. They genuinely want to save and protect each other, they enjoy each other’s company. And Holo made the first step when she admitted she had been feeling lonely before she met Lawrence.
When Will There Be a Development?
You’ll see more developments at the end of Volume 3 of the light novel series. The original Spice and Wolf anime adapted this part of the story in the first half of Season 2, so we have a feeling the remake will follow suit. That’s why, unfortunately, you will have to wait until the second season starts airing.
But don’t get too excited, since Holo and Lawrence won’t yet become a couple in Season 2. There will just be more hints at that, and viewers will be able to see that Lawrence’s priorities are shifting and he’s truly warming up to Holo.
Volume 4 was also important romance-wise, and as we know, the original anime adaptation skipped this volume. We expect it to be adapted in the second season of the remake this time. So just wait some more, and you’ll definitely see something going on between Holo and Lawrence.
