Vinland Saga is one of the most popular seinen anime out there. It was already great back in 2019 when Season 1 came out, but Season 2, released in 2023, elevated the series even more and made it the anime of the year for a number of fans and reviewers.
With this level of popularity, you would expect the sequel announcement to come out as fast as possible. And yet it’s been a year since Season 2 finished airing, and we still don’t know anything about Season 3.
Season 3 Is Never Coming?
Fans were rather disappointed when they didn’t get their desired announcement in 2023, but now they are just scared that Season 3 might never come. Although Season 2 got immense recognition, there were still a lot of viewers that thought it was boring and lacked the Season 1 action.
MAPPA worked on Season 2, and this studio is notorious for most of the controversial things happening in the animation industry nowadays. There’s great hope that the studio is trying to shift their priorities and rethink their values, that’s why they’re being cautious about announcing more sequels.
Such huge shounens as Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man are also in the works by this studio, and both series got their announcements. Vinland Saga fans sadly admit that JJK and CSM are the top priorities for MAPPA for now, so their series has to be in the waiting mode for a bit more.
It’s Too Early to Draw Conclusions
Still, it’s too early to lose all hope just yet. There was a four-year break between the first season of Vinland Saga and the second one, so it doesn’t mean that the sequel will never come out if it hasn’t been announced a year after the last anime season. Vinland Saga is not just a tiny project no one has heard of, it’s one of the greatest anime out there.
The story in the manga gets only better after the Season 2 finale. Readers say that Season 3 could be the combination of everything we love the first seasons of Vinland Saga for. And we’re sure that MAPPA understand that, too, and wouldn’t want to lose an opportunity to earn even more money from this series.
However, fans doubt that there will be any Season 3 announcements this year. As we’ve said, MAPPA has other priorities as of now, and they cannot afford to work on several immensely popular series at the same time.
One of the ideas is, the Chainsaw Man movie has to come out before we learn any news about Vinland Saga Season 3. The movie doesn’t have a release date for now, but some speculations say that it’ll premiere somewhere in 2025. Which means that it might be about a year before we hear something about Vinland Saga again.
