It broke every record an anime film can break, then spent almost a year locked in cinemas with no home release in sight. Now the biggest anime movie ever made is finally coming to streaming — and the date is closer than you might think.
The short answer
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle starts streaming on Crunchyroll on 28 July 2026, at 4pm UK time (8am Pacific). The date was revealed at the film's celebration panel at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles over the weekend of 4 July — almost exactly a year after the film's Japanese premiere on 18 July 2025.
Why the wait was so long
Money — and a theatrical run that refused to die. Infinity Castle earned $778.9 million worldwide as of 20 February 2026, making it the highest-grossing anime film of all time and overtaking the franchise's own Mugen Train globally. In Japan, it closed 2025 as the country's second-highest-grossing domestic release ever, and the run was extended into 2026 with special IMAX and ScreenX versions.
Crunchyroll never hid the strategy. As the company's head of theatrical, Mitchel Berger, put it in The Guardian's coverage of the film's box office run in January 2026:
"We have spent the last eight years building this fandom."
What you get on 28 July
- The full film — streaming worldwide on Crunchyroll, excluding Japan, mainland China, and France.
- Sub and dub — original Japanese audio with English subtitles, plus the English dub that played in US cinemas.
- A digital purchase option — available to buy on Apple TV and other platforms the same day, with pre-orders open since 4 July.
- Japan barely behind — the Japanese Blu-ray follows on 29 July.
What about Part 2?
Here's the frustrating bit. Infinity Castle is Part 1 of a trilogy adapting the final arc of Koyoharu Gotouge's 23-volume manga — and Part 2 still has no release date. Studio Ufotable's 2026 projects reel filed it under future work rather than this year's slate, which makes 2027 the earliest realistic window.
The Guardian initially reported 2027 for Part 2 and 2029 for the finale, then amended the piece on 2 January 2026 to clarify that no specific dates have been confirmed. Nothing official. The next likely announcement window is Jump Festa in December 2026 — and there was one quiet tell at Anime Expo: the first film's international logo has been updated to add a "I", finally admitting what Japan knew all along.
For the record: Infinity Castle scored matching 98% critic and audience ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Animated Motion Picture, and took Film of the Year at the 2026 Crunchyroll Anime Awards. And it's only the opening act.
