Frieren: Beyond Journey's End wrapped its second season in March 2026 on a proper cliffhanger — and then went quiet for months. At Anime Expo 2026, the silence finally broke. Here's everything that's now confirmed about Frieren season 3.
The short answer
October 2027. Season 3 was announced on 28 March 2026, straight after the season 2 finale aired, and carries the subtitle "Golden Land Arc". Madhouse is producing again, and the season will stream on Crunchyroll. An exact premiere date hasn't been set — but the window is locked in, and the full production team was confirmed at the Frieren panel at Anime Expo 2026 on 4 July.
Every key name is back
The roster posted after the panel reads like a deliberate statement:
- Director — Tomoya Kitagawa, returning from season 2, with Daiki Harashina as assistant director.
- Director support — Keiichiro Saito, who directed season 1, staying on board.
- Series composition — Tomohiro Suzuki.
- Character design — Takase Maru and Keisuke Kojima.
- Music — Evan Call, whose score has defined the series since episode one.
Every key role unchanged from seasons 1 and 2. For a production this beloved, that continuity is the real headline.
Why is season 3 taking until October 2027?
Kitagawa has addressed the gap directly. In comments reported by CBR in July 2026, he said the Madhouse team is still deep in the early stages:

Context helps here. Season 2 only finished airing in March 2026, and it ran a lean 10 episodes compared with season 1's 28. Roughly eighteen months of lead time is what animation at this standard costs — and Frieren's animation is a huge part of why people watch.
Who is Macht?
The new big bad. Macht of the Golden Land is the strongest — and last surviving — of the Seven Sages of Destruction, the Demon King's elite. Season 2's finale teased the Golden Land itself, a sealed region that was once the hometown of Frieren's ally Denken, with Macht sitting calmly at the centre of the chaos. A new teaser visual unveiled at Anime Expo puts him front and centre, staring straight down the camera.
Chills, basically. The Golden Land arc is widely rated as the best stretch of Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe's manga, which is exactly why expectations for this season are so high.
