Hating on Sakura has already become some sort of a meme in the Naruto fandom. She’s a regular star in various “most hated anime characters” lists and is discussed in a negative context every now and then by Naruto fans. But what’s wrong with her? And does she really deserve all of the hate?

Female characters usually get more hate
The amount of hate she’s getting is quite puzzling even for those who have watched Naruto. Yes, Sakura can be mean and offensive, but doesn’t the same go for every other character? Some suggest that it might be a feminism issue. She’s a girl after all, and unfortunately it’s a pretty often thing when a female character receives much more hate than she actually deserves. Let’s remember Gabi from Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin), who resembles Eren a lot in many ways, but he is one of the fan favorite characters, while Gabi’s name cannot be mentioned without a couple of people clenching their jaws. So the point is that Sakura is a lot like that, and if she were not a woman, the reaction would be different.
But there’s got to be another reason, since solely being a female character is not a good enough reason for this outrage. And Sakura does provide this reason.
Useless and offensive?
To put it short: Sakura is useless. She doesn’t do a lot during important moments, and just allows Naruto or Sasuke to resolve conflicts. Sakura is pretty weak and she relies on others a lot. Although she does have character development and gets better over time, the initial impression is terrible. Even though she evolves significantly, and Boruto Sakura can actually be an enjoyable character, fans don’t want to forget everything she was before.
Sakura can also be very rude and annoying. Her obsession with Sasuke irritated a lot of people to no end, and they disliked the idea of them ending up together. Sakura can also be pretty mean, and fans will never forget her making fun of Naruto for being an orphan in front of… another orphan, Sasuke! But the point of the beginning of the series was that everyone disliked Naruto, so maybe Sakura was just doing that to convey this idea.
Most fans agree that Sakura is just not a good character. It’s not that she’s a villain. You can like villains but wouldn’t want to meet them in real life. But Sakura is presented as a “good” character while being completely unlikeable.
