  • It looks stunning and very touching.

Look Back is an upcoming anime movie based on a one-shot manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto, whom you might know as the author of Chainsaw Man and Fire Punch. The movie is animated by Studio DURIAN and will premiere in Japan on June 28.

Look Back revolves around two aspiring manga artists. Fujino is used to being the best in her class, so when she hears her classmates praising Kyomoto for her outstanding work, jealousy strikes her. However, this is the beginning of the girls’ friendship, and not a feud.

Official Trailer

The official Look Back trailer has been released, and although this is not the first look we’ve got at the series, this is the first time we see both manga artists animated.

The first thing that catches your eye is the peculiar art style of the movie. It stays true to Fujimoto’s original style, and yet surprises the viewer with a unique touch. It’s so unusual that it might seem unappealing at the first glance, but it really grows on you by the end of the trailer.

It’s also wonderful to finally see both Fujino and Kyomoto together. The manga was extremely heart-wrenching, but the trailer gives us hope that we’ll see at least a couple of wholesome slice-of-life moments with the girls.

The soundtrack is absolutely beautiful, and it’s almost impossible not to shed a tear or two while watching the trailer. Especially if you know the story of Look Back. But even if you don’t, the direction and the music will definitely work their magic on you.

One of the final scenes of the trailer is a shot of Fujino turning around and “looking back,” symbolizing the name of the movie. And if that’s not hauntingly beautiful, we don’t know what is.

Movie Expectations

Needless to say, fans are excited to watch the movie. Everything about Look Back that’s already been shared seems wonderful, and knowing Fujimoto and his works, some deep and soul-crushing drama is on its way.

Although Look Back is only a one-shot that can be finished in an hour or so, there is a lot of soul and thought put into this manga. And there’s great hope that the movie adaptation will follow suit and touch a big number of viewers.

It’s still unclear where the movie will be available outside of Japan, but there’s hope that the news won’t keep us waiting for long. So let’s believe that we’ll also be able to see this stunning anime this year, too.
