Oblivion Battery Is the True Hidden Gem of 2024

Don’t let the first impression fool you, it’s a great anime.

Summary:

  • Oblivion Battery is currently airing.
  • The scores of the series are growing.
  • The anime keeps improving.

Oblivion Battery (Boukyaku Battery) is a rather fresh anime series that started airing in Spring 2024. The first episode was released on April 10, and the series is still ongoing.

It follows an incredibly talented battery of baseball players, pitcher Haruka and catcher Kei. The only problem is, Kei has lost his memory and doesn’t want anything to do with the sport anymore, that’s why Haruka’s goal now is to make his friend fall in love with baseball again.

Growing Scores

When Oblivion Battery just started coming out, it wasn’t that popular or loved by the viewer. Most of them were still unsure about the series and put off by its inappropriate humor and annoying characters. Well, a character, if we’re being precise. Sorry, Kei.

The MyAnimeList score was a bit over 6, which is not necessarily terrible, but doesn’t look promising. Fans didn’t know what to expect from Oblivion Battery and had mixed feelings about the anime.

However, the score began growing gradually, and as of now, the series is given 7.01 on MyAnimeList and positive reviews start appearing online. Oblivion Battery is a perfect example of the three episode rule, and the further you get into it, the more you like it.

It Fixes Its Own Issues

Although a number of otaku thought that animation would be the main issue of Oblivion Battery, especially knowing the current situation at MAPPA, the first episodes proved that there was something else you might find unenjoyable: the series’ characters and humor.

Juvenile gags have become an inseparable part of Oblivion Battery, and Kei’s eccentric personality made it difficult for the viewers to feel for him and get engaged in the story.

However, Oblivion Battery knows what it’s doing. Kei wasn’t written this way just to piss you off and show you how brilliant Mamoru Miyano (Kei’s voice actor) is. It was a clever set-up for character development.

It is true that Kei is getting better with each episode. He shows more signs of a tolerable and even appealing human being, he’s remembering more stuff about baseball, and the most shocking thing is that we’ve seen him be serious for a change.

Some action has finally been introduced into the series, and it’s as exciting as a sports anime should be. To put it shortly, Oblivion Battery improves with each episode, and it’s safe to say that it’s already turned into a hidden gem of Spring 2024. A series that you shouldn’t miss.
