Summary:
- There have been concerns about the contents of Tadaima, Okaeri.
- This series is not a yaoi, it doesn’t feature explicit content.
- Tadaima, Okaeri is a shounen-ai anime.
Tadaima, Okaeri is a rather fresh BL anime series that started airing this season, but has already managed to charm hundreds of fans with its absolutely wholesome vibe and adorable kid, Hikari.
There Were Worries
Tadaima, Okaeri is not just a BL series, it’s also an omegaverse one, and when fans hear this word, they have some expectations. Shippers and fanfic readers will especially understand it because omegaverse often comes along with some sexual tags and male pregnancy, which is also a thing a lot of people dislike.
But Tadaima, Okaeri manages to make omegaverse look rather chill and as appropriate as possible. Don’t worry, even if you’re not a fan of such things, this anime might still work for you.
The series does include a male pregnancy, though, but it doesn’t explore any weird fetishes with it. It’s just a way to explain how a couple of men can have a baby who’s blood-related to both of them.
BL Series Can Be Different
For some reason quite a few fans expect something sexual not only from an omegaverse series, but also from any BL series, and Tadaima, Okaeri couldn’t avoid these allegations, either. But fear not, the series is not yaoi.
This mistake may also stem from a misunderstanding of what yaoi actually is. A number of fans have this idea that everything BL related is yaoi, but that’s not true.
Yaoi is usually used when talking about series that depict explicit content, but not every BL series has to do so. Tadaima, Okaeri isn’t sexual or inappropriate for young audiences, thus it’s not yaoi.
It’s Shounen-Ai
There’s another term for BL anime, which is shounen-ai. Such series depict romantic relationships between two men, but stay on the safe side and don’t include any sexual content. And this term can also be applied to Tadaima, Okaeri, which is more story-focused than yaoi.
So basically BL is a somewhat umbrella term for all manga and anime series that depict relationships between men. So if you see the “boys love” tag, it doesn’t mean you’re about to go into explicit territory, it just gives you information about the gender of the main characters.
Of course, the omegaverse part of Tadaima, Okaeri is always there, so it’s always up to you whether you’d like to watch it or not. But if it was the yaoi that scared you off, don’t worry, you’re safe.
