Fire Punch is a dystopian dark fantasy manga by the author of Chainsaw Man, Tatsuki Fujimoto. It is set in a post-apocalyptic world that’s been frozen for years and follows Agni, a boy who’s being burned alive.
We Need a Fire Punch Anime
The anime adaptation of Chainsaw Man opened Pandora's box and made fans crave adaptations of other works of Fujimoto. One of them got lucky, and we’ll be able to see the Look Back anime movie in Japanese theaters in June 2024.
The funny thing is, Look Back wasn’t the most anticipated adaptation. Fans admitted to enjoy another one-shot, ‘Goodbye, Eri’, more. However, out of all Fujimoto’s works, fans want to see Fire Punch animated the most.
Such an anime might be very challenging to make due to the amount of problematic content in Fire Punch. It’s an extremely gory and brutal series that will be hard to adapt without any censorship. And we all know how much fans hate when things are censored.
But let’s imagine for a second that there’s a brave studio, ready to bring us Fire Punch the anime. What is the best way to do that?
TV Series or Movies?
Fire Punch is a rather short manga, it’s got 8 volumes and 83 chapters. In comparison, there are more than 160 Chainsaw Man chapters now, and the manga still keeps going. So even if there is a Fire Punch anime, it won’t be long.
A number of manga readers suggest that 83 chapters can be adapted into an anime movie or a short series of movies. One movie might not be enough, since there are plenty of events in the manga, and if we don't want the pacing to suffer, such a project should be about 4 hours long.
There were previously rumors that Fire Punch would be a three-part movie series, and some fans think it’s perfect for the adaptation. It’ll be just enough time to handle the pacing in a satisfying way without skipping important beats of the story.
But the thing fans want the most is for Fire Punch to be an anime series. 3 cours are perfect to adapt the entire manga, so Fire Punch will hardly need more than two seasons to reach its finale.
This won’t make Western fans wait for international release of the movies and will allow them to enjoy the series weekly just like the Japanese audience.
However, if we’re being honest, fans are ready for anything. They just want a brave studio to take up Fire Punch and bring even more life into their beloved characters and this depressing story.
