With Dorohedoro Getting Season 2, Here Are 5 Other MAPPA Anime That Desperately Need a Sequel

Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man are also getting more anime — but what about other anime by the studio?

MAPPA seems to be busy with many different projects. A lot of them are sequels — like the one that was just announced for Dorohedoro. This made fans of other MAPPA series wonder: where are sequels for their favorite anime, exactly?

The God of High School

The God of High School felt like yet another failed experiment. The anime adapted one of the most popular webtoons, but viewers who were not familiar with the source material just felt puzzled. After 13 episodes, the anime was quickly forgotten.

A big reason for this is how almost none of the characters got any chance to develop. The source material is long, and another season would certainly help the anime: it definitely has the potential to be something great.

Kakegurui

Technically, we did get more Kakegurui content recently with the 6-episode adaptation of a spin-off manga. There, however, has been no announcement for the real third season, which makes fans quite unhappy.

The manga is currently ongoing — and still popular, so a sequel is very much possible. The anime also has a lot of fans. Even though it’s not the most thought-provoking thing ever, the sheer thrill and insanity of the games make it very fun to watch.

Vinland Saga

What do Vinland Saga and Attack on Titan have in common? That’s right, both were made by Wit at first and then shipped off to MAPPA. The second season of the anime was drastically different from the first, which was somewhat polarizing. That said, most fans still liked it a lot.

To get to even better parts of the story, Vinland Saga needs another season. With the manga being ongoing and on a monthly schedule, it will take a while to finish — and we might have to wait a while for the adaptation as well.

Fighting Spirit

Fighting Spirit (Hajime no Ippo) is one of the longest running manga of all time, with over 1400 chapters currently published. Yes, it’s longer than One Piece! Arguably one of the most iconic sports anime out there, it follows Ippo, a young man who gets into boxing.

Technically, only the last season was animated by MAPPA — and they worked together with Madhouse, so it barely counts. That said, the anime didn’t even cover half of the material that’s currently out, so a sequel is very much required.

Yuri!!! on Ice

Okay, this one is cheating. The movie sequel of Yuri on Ice is in the works. The problem? It was originally announced half a decade ago and scheduled for 2019. And right now, we still don’t have a new date for it.

The studio seems to still be working on the movie, but it’s stuck in production hell, it seems. A big shame, because Yuri on Ice definitely needs this sequel.
