12 Japanese Anime Voice Actors That We’ll Always Recognize

Everywhere we go, we hear their voices.

If in the ancient battle of dub vs sub you’re on the sub team, we’re sure you’ve had a couple of moments when you were watching an anime series and went “OH! I’ve heard this voice before!”

We’re so confident about that because this is exactly what keeps happening to us in almost each new series that we start watching. So let’s remember some of the Japanese anime voices that we love so dearly.

1. Atsumi Tanezaki

How can we start with anyone else but our current queen Frieren herself? However, Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (Sousou no Frieren) is not the first time we fell in love with her.

You may be very surprised by this, but Atsumi Tanezaki is also perfect at voicing adorable children like Anya from Spy x Family, and we’re sure she’ll prove it once again in the upcoming anime adaptation of Tadaima, Okaeri.

2. Nobuhiko Okamoto

Since we’ve already started talking about Frieren, let’s add one more name from this series to our list. This time it’s our beloved Himmel. But you can also recognize his incredible voice from My Hero Academia (Boku no Hero Academia) where he plays Bakugou.

Nobuhiko Okamoto is a real star this season as you can also hear him in such ongoing series as 7th Time Loop (Dietrich), Ishura (Kasugai no Hidow) or Undead Unluck (Top).

3. Aoi Yuuki

But Frieren was not the only treat that we got last season, and it’s time to remember The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto). And one of the reasons for our love for this series is Maomao, voiced by Aoi Yuuki.

You also heard her break your heart as Lucy from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and she’s currently surprising us with her adorable Peeps in Sasaki and Peeps (Sasaki to Pii-chan).

4. Yuki Kaji

“His name is… Eren Yeager!”

This man has an infinite list of roles but we have to be honest, his Eren from Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) was the moment when we realized he was truly special.

Since then he has brought a big number of memorable characters to life: Shouto (My Hero Academia), Yukine (Noragami), Ayato (Tokyo Ghoul), Sabito (Demon Slayer), Rip (Undead Unluck), Soujirou (Ishura).

5. Yui Ishikawa

We can’t talk about Eren and forget about Mikasa, can we? Yui Ishikawa did an outstanding job voicing her and we’ll forever remember all the various heartbreaking intonations that she uses every time Mikasa says “Eren.”

But this is not the first time her voice went so well with the heartbreak: Yui Ishikawa also voiced Violet (Violet Evergarden) and 2B (NieR:Automata Ver1.1a).

6. Mamoru Miyano

The god of the new world himself, the unbelievable Light Yagami (Death Note). This is the laughter that you’ll never confuse with anyone else’s.

But Light is not his only role that we’ll remember forever. Mamoru Miyano also voiced Rintarou (Steins;Gate), Dazai (Bungo Stray Dogs) and Tsukiyama (Tokyo Ghoul). We guess he has a thing for eccentric geniuses, huh?

7. Junichi Suwabe
